COOLING REFUGES A PROJECT IN DEVELOPMENT

Space to
cool down.

Exploring compact refuges from extreme heat.

Designed around people.

With lower energy demand in mind.

Read about the project

A little relief.
A different scale.

Coolbox is exploring small spaces where people can find relief from extreme heat, without needing to cool an entire building.

The project considers passive, hybrid and active approaches, suited to different climates and levels of infrastructure.

The aim is practical cooling with as little energy demand as possible.

+ Passive + Hybrid + Active

Before the
first prototype.

Coolbox is at an early stage. The next step is to develop and test the ideas with the right engineering, research and funding partners.

CURRENT FOCUS

Design & development

Exploring cooling approaches, preparing for thermal modelling and building conversations with prospective partners.

WHAT COMES NEXT

Validate, build, test

Engineering review, prototype fabrication and testing. Performance and suitable uses will need to be established through that work.

Technical designs and detailed project documentation are reserved for direct discussions with prospective collaborators.

Help shape
what comes next.

We’re interested in conversations with people working on cooling, climate adaptation and places of refuge.

01

Engineering & design

Thermal, materials, mechanical and manufacturing expertise.

02

Research & funding

Research collaborations and support for development and testing.

03

Future pilots

Organisations exploring practical responses to heat exposure.
